Although we speak of “Italian linen,” its story begins farther north, within Europe’s flax-growing belt across France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. There, an oceanic climate where rainfall and sunshine naturally alternate allows flax to grow for approximately 100 days, developing remarkably long, fine, and resilient fibers.

When linen is described as Italian, Belgian, or Irish, the name does not necessarily indicate where the flax was grown, but rather where the fiber acquired its identity as a textile. Through retting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, and finishing, generations of expertise transform a natural fiber into an exceptional fabric.
