·Linen fabric is the heart of Velia Sierra Design. It's considered the oldest vegetable fibers in textile history, with fragments of it being discovered in the Caucasus dating back to 36,000 B.C.E. Its durability and resistance made it part of great moments in the history of humanity: in the construction of the pyramids of Egypt, in the first commercial activities between Greece and Africa for the sails of ships, in the conservation of very ancient mummies such as Ramses II of 3,000 years of age, among others.

Linen is cool and at the same time thermal, since, in hot seasons, it maintains the natural temperature of the body, absorbing natural sweat, while in cold climates, it preserves the heat that the wearer's body gives off. Additionally, linen stands out for being breathable due to the fiber weave and the natural properties of flaxseed, allowing air to circulate and providing greater comfort to its user.

Time and time again, linen has consistently demonstrated its relevance in history and its permanence in the textile world. Currently, flax fibers represent <0.5% of the world production of textile fibers, presenting a growth of 133% between 2010 and 2020. Its production is concentrated in Europe, mainly in the coastal regions of France, Belgium and the Netherlands, since flax requires a cold and humid climate to be cultivated. As of January 2024, all the linens with which we produce each piece of Velia Sierra Design with dedication and care, are certified by the Alliance for European Linen and Hemp, which guarantee their traceability, sustainability and excellence in quality standards.

Linen being one of the few 100% organic and hipoallergenic, it rejects pesticides and chemicals commonly used to treat crops, which is why it is considered a totally sustainable and biodegradable fabric.

History and properties of viscose
In a constant search to evolve and exceed the expectations of our clients, Velia Sierra Design presents a material that embodies opulence and sustainability in equal parts: viscose. This fiber of ecological origin, developed in the 19th century by the French scientist and industrialist Hilaire de Chardonnet, captivates with its ethereal drape, vaporous texture and notable versatility. ··
Viscose is a fabric that is derived from the cellulose of natural fibers, particularly from regenerative trees such as beech, pine and eucalyptus, and more recently bamboo. The cellulose from these trees goes through a process known as "regeneration," which allows it to be transformed into soft, silky fibers, ready to be used in the development of our designs. ··
After a meticulous process of research and selection of raw materials, Velia Sierra Design continues its legacy of elegance and environmental responsibility, betting on viscose fiber given the elegance, softness and comfort it brings to its creations. Its lightness makes it an ideal fiber to use in the summer, and like linen, it absorbs heat and water, preventing body heat from being trapped inside the garment. The use of pesticides is considerably less in the cultivation of trees that make up viscose, so it is a fiber that tends to be friendlier to the skin of its wearer.
In adherence to European quality standards, all the viscose textiles we use have Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 and Canopy Green Shirt certifications, which support sustainable practices in obtaining and managing resources for their manufacturing, thus guaranteeing traceability throughout the production chain. In addition to this, all our garments are made from 100% viscose, coming from 100% natural cellulose, making each piece almost completely biodegradable.·· ··
